Today, I am excited to interview my friend and fellow author Sarah Holman on the blog once again! This time she is talking about her latest book, which is an extra special one because rather than being just any old story, it’s the story of her family. I’ve gotten to know Sarah’s family personally over the years and have been so blessed by them, so I’m excited to see this book released!

What do you get when you mix two parents who grew up in the city, six kids who have always lived in the country, and add homeschooling? You get a whole lot of laughter!

Homeschool graduate and author Sarah Holman shares stories about her family that range from thought-provoking to side-splitting. She shares both hilarious mistakes and heartbreaking moments in her family. In this collection of stories, she endeavors capture some of the answers to the questions people have often asked her about growing up in a conservative homeschool family as well as some of the wisdom she has gleaned along the way. Sarah invites you to open up this scrapbook of memories. She hopes that you come away encouraged, inspired…and laughing.

Hello Sarah! Thank you for joining me today. What made you decide to write this book?

People have asked me for years to write a book about my family. I never seriously thought about it until an older man, who I look up to as a grandfather, came up with the title and told me I had to write the book. So, I started writing that night. I felt this book would be an encouragement to homeschool moms, fun for homeschool graduates, and interesting for those wanting to know more about the lifestyle of conservative families. My family is also my favorite subject, so it wasn’t a hardship to write about. 😉

How is writing nonfiction different than writing fiction?

It was a lot easier in that I didn’t have to make stuff up. I just picked the stories I wanted to tell and wrote them down. It was different because I was writing about real people. I wanted to be thoughtful about their feelings. It was a challenge at times, but I really loved it.

Were there any parts of the book that were difficult for you to share with the world?

I’m very defensive of my family, so it was hard to put a book out there, knowing some people won’t like it. Also, I wanted to be honest about some of our faults. It was hard to strike a balance between sharing openly and not hurting feelings or making the book have a negative feel. Thankfully, it seems that it came out well in the end.

What is next for you in your writing career?

Well, I plan to release a Christmas story in the first part of December. 😉 However, as far as books, next year I am working to release three books in my Kate’s Case Files series. I already have book three written and book four is almost done! Now, if I can just edit it well…

And for fun, which TV show would you like to live inside and why?

I would probably have to pick Sue Thomas FBEye. I like the people, I like law enforcement, and I love trying to solve mysteries.
